What is Domestic Roaming?

Domestic roaming occurs when your mobile device connects to a third-party network in areas where Cricket customers don’t have access to the Cricket/AT&T network in the U.S., Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Cricket works with other network providers to overlap coverage, ensuring customers have access to wireless service in these areas at no extra charge.

Domestic Roaming FAQs

Cricket customers who are roaming on one of our many third-party networks will see a change on the top left corner of their device from “cricket” to the roaming network name or just the word "Roaming."

Cricket uses other carriers’ networks and private networks in specific roam zones to fill coverage gaps for customers.

Domestic roaming occurs when your mobile device connects to a non-Cricket Wireless network (a third-party network) in the United States, Puerto Rico, or the U.S. Virgin Islands.

International roaming occurs when your mobile device connects to an international carrier’s network when you are not in the United States, for example, Canada & Mexico.

You do not have to do anything on your device to get domestic roaming. Service automatically moves from the Cricket network to “off-net” Domestic Roaming.

“Off-net” or “Off-network” coverage refers to the areas where Cricket doesn’t have their own network.  In these areas, Cricket provides coverage by contracting with a carrier who has coverage in that area.

When you are off-network, you may see ‘Roaming” on the top left corner of your device screen. Moving from the Cricket network to off-network is a seamless experience and there is no additional charge for domestic off- network roaming.

Access to wireless coverage in  Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands is included with all Cricket plans at no extra charge.

Wi-Fi roaming is a wireless networking technology that allows a wi-fi enabled device to switch between wireless access points without losing connection. It allows browsing, Wi-Fi calling, SMS, and MMS.

Disaster and Emergency Roaming is turned on when natural disasters, like hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, etc., occur, or when towers are damaged. Cricket customers do not have to do anything on their devices to get Disaster/Emergency Roaming.
